<lj:music>Ragtime prologue</lj:music>

Hello everyone!

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, and New Year. Unless you're an anti New Yearer, in which case I hope you had a wonderful time seeing frustrating but good movies and washing your sorrows away in juice from lowly diners.

Such was my New Years, but that is a story for later.

I'm back at school now and wouldnt be surprised to learn that NOBODY reads my journal or ever did. But there comes a point in a guys life where he gets bored before bed and needs to talk, but everyone to talk to is working or in bed...and then he resorts to his neglected journal.

The days leading up to Christmas Break were filled with much stress and excitement.

I was casted as Father in Furman's production of Ragtime. Which actually isnt done by Furman, but a student run orginazation at Furman. Needless to say it is a HUGE show, but I'm very excited about doing it and I think it will turn out nicely.

And umm...thats all the noteworthy things that happened before break...I think?

Break was absolutely wonderful. I needed it so bad. It was great to see my friends from back home! I missed all of them.

Nights at Triangle Park and being a nerd...classic! :)

The days after Christmas I was a complete bum, which I had no problem with. I slept late, ate a bunch of food to try to gain back all the weight I've lost at school, played games, watched tv, hung otu with people, went to bed at 3 in the morning and loved every minute of it.

On New Years I planned on going to a party or something, but my girlfriend, being as wonderful as she is, seems to hate New Years almost as much as she hates compliments. So we ended up avoiding everything "New Years-ish" and just had a nice dinner, saw Meet the Fockers, drove around High Point literally like 6 times from main st to wendover, back and forth. Until we ended up at Carolina Diner 5 mins till 12 and had some mediocre dessert and some drinks. It was good fun though!

I have to admit, I've never really had an incredible New Years myself. This years was definitely the best, although it wasnt extremely noteworthy, it was the best I've really ever had. Two years ago I babysat...yeah weird right? And then last year was a little too dramatic. We didnt get our restaurant, and a lot of things just didnt go as planned. I was "courting" and it wasnt going too well...

But obviously it all turned out for the best.

I got back to school last Monday. Classes are pretty good. I love my History class, and theory is just kinda blah. I go to History, and then to Theory and ask myself "Why the heck am I a music major?" But theory is just an unfortunate side effect I think...

I'm really enjoying the voice program here. Its wonderful learning new things.

The show is going well. Its very natural for me to have rehearsals at night, and I'm enjoying it.

Anwyays...bedtime...I'm so tired!!!

Bigtime shoutout to Nicole Demetru(sorry sp)...whoose birthday is like right now I guess.

So Happy Birthday Nicole! You're wonderful and awesome! Have a great day!

So I'm here writing this english paper...

and I've been going through my old journal entries, and wow! I've written a whole lot.

But to what purpose? Seems like a lot of wasted energy to me.

I mean, naturally they'll all be published for the rest of the world to read eventually. The world has been waiting very patiently...hmm...I'll think about it.

But really, why do I write so much? I dunno.

I wish I could put the kind of energy I used to put into this thing into my english papers, because its definitely not happening right now. Sigh...

Christmas Oratorio is tomorrow.

Woohoo.

    <lj:music>Take me as I am-Jekyll and Hyde</lj:music>

Last night a rainstorm came, and washed away the dismal month that was November.

Today is a beautiful day to start the month of December with. Of course we all have dreaded exams at first, but afterwards its nothing but good times! Gifts and parties to look forward to...

I was home last week, and it was pretty nice. I just relaxed and hung out.

The first few days were a lot better then the last few ones. Because when I first got there I remembered the stresses of school, and was anxious for a break from them. But by Thursday the old stresses of being home took over and I remembered why I looked forward to college. It was still really nice being home though.

I didnt really see any of my home friends though, just family and Linz. Which was good, but I'm looking forward to seeing some people over Christmas.

Even though my break is super short! The 17th to the 3rd. :(, oh well...

Well, thats about all I have to say right now! I'm tired, and am going to try not to take a nap.

My hall was really loud last night and it pissed both me and my roommate off. The thing is, it was our RA and FRADS. The people supposed to be enforcing the being quiet after 2 in the morning rule.

I think I'm going to audition for Ragtime on Saturday. Opera auditions were Monday, but my voice teacher, who directs the operas, told me he wouldnt cast me this year so...yeah haha! But Ragtime might be fun! I'm really anxious to do a show.

Best of luck in the next couple weeks to everybody!

    <lj:music>Christmas Canon</lj:music>

How many of you out there remember being five?

Life was pretty darn good when we were kids. I think sometimes its hard to remember what it was really like though. Have you ever had one of those moments where you hear a song or see something that reminds you of another time? Or that just brings back a lot of feelings or thoughts that you used to have from a certain time. Maybe even a time when you were a kid?

Yesterday I saw the Polar Express movie. If any of you do not know what that is, then please...go get a job at the local diner because you had no childhood.

It was really awesome to get to see the movie. I loved that book when I was a kid. It had been awhile since I read it, but I could see the pictures from the book in the movie sometimes. It was really wonderful.

And I love Christmas. A lot. It is definitely the best time of the year.

Great music. Great food. Great weather. Great People. Celebratin the J-Man.

From the very start of the movie I was wishing that I was a five year old, so that I could enjoy it more. Because whether I meant to or not, as I watched the movie I saw and noticed things that a five year old wouldnt see, and I wished that I didnt. For example, a strange conductor guy that tries to convince kids to ride in his 'train car' is just kinda sketch. If I took my kids to that movie I'd be like, okay John the III and little Christine, if a strange guy comes and asks you to get in his train...you say NO! But really now, I got past it of course :P.

The movie was wonderful. And it really made me feel like a kid again. The music is great too, just a little too much like music of the night.

So please go see the Polar Express, its great!

My weekend was very nice! Had a semi-relaxing day on Friday. I learned many lessons that day. One of which being that everywhere you want to go is closed on Friday except Krispy Kreme and Wal-Mart.

Saturday was a fabulous day as I saw Polar Express, and gave Linz a semi-tour of downtown Greenville. It was a very fun day! Props to Linz for always guaranteeing fun(and cookies) and the Polar Express for making me feel like a kid.

I'm working at a Catholic Church, singing in a choir. Went to my first mass today.

Very interesting. I'm pretty sure I offended everybody in the church and probably the Pope too. Sorry buddy!

I'm waiting for the day for that first snowflake to fall. Cant wait.

Wonderful weekends are in many ways like snow here down south. Wonderful while they last, but they always leave a puddle of wet and dreary weeks :/.

Peace

Yeah so I have not updated in awhile...

school is good, things are good.

Had my wisdom teeth taken out a couple weeks ago, that was no fun at all except for the first 6 hours. After that its all downhill, throwing up, bleeding, yuck!

On a lighter note, just had a fun weekend with Linz visiting drama geeks to watch them perform. And SWEAT went home with numerous awards including the equivalent of 2nd place, which is darn good! So a big time congrats to them!

I'm so ready for some turkey and relaxing time. You really live for the weekends here, and the weekends are always too short. But you also live for big breaks in the stress, and thats things like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanksgiving also means movie time...

The Incredibles
The Polar Express
National Treasure

yeah!

I probably will see one.

Anyways, thought I'd just update this to say that I'm alive, well, and having good times.

It seems like the whole journal group we had going kinda stopped updating, thats the way it works I guess.

Hope everyone is doing well and having good times!

    <lj:music>Last Five Years</lj:music>

I'm back at school! The break at home was nice, even though it really didnt feel like a break. Or at least it was really way too short. I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving :)!

Can I just say(of course I can, its my journal...) that I really like Last Five Years. I have not listened to it in awhile, and its really making my day right now heh.

So I'm finally feeling a little better with these holes in my mouth. I think yesterday was the climax of the bad stuff. The bleeding has finally slowed down, so I think they're healing up. I'm really looking forward to normal foods hah. Yesterday I only had one class that I opted out of since I felt really bad after my voice lesson. And my choir director said if I didnt feel up to it I didnt have to go to choir, so I had a nice day to get better.

Thats really all thats been going on lately. The rest of the week is going to be pretty busy, have a big paper due on Friday. Halloween is this weekend, I dont think I'm even going to dress up. Normally, I'd ask David Idol what he was doing and either play of that or copy him altogether...or just laugh at him as I did last year(he was a a pirate). But, he's not really around. I'll probably laugh at him anyways. If I hadnt gotten my wisdom teeth taken out, I was going to go visit him over fall break which wouldve been 1000000 times more fun. At least I think so, but who knows :P. New York, broadway shows versus drugs and pain... yeah thats a hard one.

I drove back with Linz and her friend Brittany on Sunday. I was a chipmunk, the cool one though, not the short fat one.

Hope everybody's doing well...

see yah soon!

Wow, and I kinda thought I'd get away with not updating my journal for the rest of October. But here I am doing it!

It has been awhile( it seems like I always start my entries with that nowadays).

I'm home! Which is nice. I needed a break from the routine back at Furman. Its a strange feeling being back. Part of me feels like I have not been gone long at all, but at the sametime it does.

Anyways, the catch of being back home is that I'm getting my wisdom teeth taken out tomorrow. Which is really not too good at all. The perks are sleeping a lot, and fun drugs hehe.

But it would have been more fun spending time with people I have not seen in awhile.

Oh well, it'll be a hazy weekend.

THE RED SOX WON!!! YAY!

I'm looking forward to watching an awesome world series! Yay november! Because december comes right after that!!! :)

My x-mas break is shorter then most, but no complaints really since I suppose it could be worse.

I'm really excited that the weather is getting cooler, I dont know why, I just like it better.

I feel like I dont talk to anyone from home anymore. So if it feels like we have not talked for awhile, just call me, I want to talk to you, but I'm just too busy or occupied or what not to call myself. But I'm sure I really would like to hear from you. Just call after 10PM because unless I'm asleep or wrapped up in work, or practing, I'll answer :P!

Times flying by, this semester has been going by really fast. Which is good I guess. They say college can be the fastest 4 years of your life. Or maybe just my dad says that...I dont know...

In any case,

I'm just running my mouth...or my fingers really, but I'm not really saying much so I guess I'll go.

And I'll try to update while I'm on drugs because it might make my journal entries interesting.

336-416-3597

Well, I'm about to go to the library, but first I thought I'd update my journal...

It was a pretty good weekend, definitely much needed. But it went by way too fast as they always do.

On Friday I had a nice nap after my last class. And when I woke up I had a strange feeling. The feeling that you slept through an entire day or something, and that it was a new day. It felt like Saturday. But it was still Friday, so its like I had two Saturdays this weekend. Which is super great!

Friday night Mason F. and Nicole and I went into downtown Greenville for a concert. The first band was saw was called Rubyhorse, and they werent too bad. They were from Ireland or something like that. The main band was reallly awesome! But...I'm sad to say I cant even remember their name lol, I need to ask Mason. After that we went on a late night grocery trip which was fun. The Ingles is so sketch...80 year old prostitutes...no joke...

Yesterday I woke up late and started on a mission to fix my laptop of its viruses, but I never did. Instead I went to hang out with Linz. We did things like eat, shop, throw bears on the floor, and try to watch dvds. It was fun!

So okay...

I think I've had one of the craziest experiences that I'll ever have here.

Earlier this week I was out talking on the phone on the balcony, (we have a porch type thing on our floor at the end of our hall and I always go out there to talk on the phone).

Well, towards the end of my conversation I saw a group of guys kind of jog away from the building with their shirts over there heads. Now, that actually is not normal...so I was just like umm okay thats weird.

Now at this time I should tell you that Furman has a "lake", and unforunatly with the lake comes tons of ducks and swans. They're no fun. They look pretty cool when they land in water in flocks...but...yeah...they're just no fun.

So I walk back in and right in front of me trodding down the hall is a swan...

leaving a trail of swan crap in piles...

So this is not normal.

Part of me wants to laugh, and the other half wants to scream!

The guys are coming out of their rooms, and we start following it down the hall.

Scott, who happens to be the man, comes out with his video camera and starts video taping the whole thing.

At one point it gets to the end of the hall and falls down the steps(they cant see below them or something like that).

At that point the swan decided to sit down. Then I took a picture, mind you its much bigger then it looks:

I'm having problems getting the pictures to work, so go here to see them: http://community.webshots.com/user/jdavis44

Our RA called the FUPO(Furman Police), who didnt get their until like 20 minutes after we called.

Meanwhile we were all telling our side of the story...
"I just opened the door....and there was a swan!!! And a bunch of crap!!"

Anyways, we open a door, and Brian takes a chair and kind of leads the swan out the door with it. We all felt pretty bad, it was scared to death but we didnt know what else to do.

After that we realized that another swan, this time a bigger one, was upstairs on Haynsworth 200. This is a girls hall. Ours is a guys hall.

Poor girls.

It had pooped everywhere!!! And the smell was sooooo horrible!

They finally got the swan out the door onto the steps, at which point I took another picture, remember, its bigger then it looks:

I'm having problems getting the pictures to work, so go here to see them: http://community.webshots.com/user/jdavis44

FUPO showed up...told us to not scare it. Then went outside, lit up, and started giving parking tickets.

That jerk!

Animal control finally showed up and carried the poor thing back outside. But not without the swan donating 10,000 more pounds of waste to Haynsworth steps.

Needless to say it was a crazy experience, and the video is sooooo funny!

Well, sorry this is so long! I hope everyone is doing well!

Until next time...

<lj:music>Sounds of Ducks and geese outside my window</lj:music>

Hey Everybody!!!

Today is such a good day that its even good enough for updating my journal!

Lets see.....

College is pretty great! Classes are classes, and they're slowly getting harder and harder as time goes on. But I suppose thats not a big surprise.

The voice program here is really intense, I have Furman Singers rehearsal all the time, and when I'm not doing that I should be practicing voice for lessons and such. I still have not gotten into a practicing routine, and if I dont soon then I might as well drop out now and get it over with. And when I do practice I have this "need" to sing musical theatre, which is really dangerous...a dangerous game. I should just have somebody hide all my musical theatre books for me or something haha. That way I'll practice only what I'm supposed to be.

Today was cleaning day and I'm really proud of myself. I was really uncomfortable and verging on unhappy, and it was largely because my room had gotten really messy. But today I fixed all of that! It took about 4 or 5 hours, but I washed, ironed, and folded all my clothes, vacuumed the floor(those of you who have been in my room know how bad that needed to be done), cleaned my desk, picked up everything off the floor(which really happened before the vacuuming but this is not a step by step plan mind you), and re-made my bed!

Phew!

I've definitely been having some fun times here, its hard to go back and talk about everything thats happened so I'm not going to try.

The past week was pretty crazy, and it was topped off with a Furman Singers picnic Friday night. It was fun I guess.

Yesterday night I hung out with Linz at GW which was fun! We watched GW win a game and then she drained me with water.

I have a paper to write tonight and I need to go grocery shopping. Anybody wanna go?

Peace out kids...

OH...

Score thus far in the letter contest:

Dad:2
Mom:1
Liz and Parents:1
Lindsay:1
Kimberly:5(cookies count a lot)
Amazon.com:1
You: ZERO

Hello everybody!!!

Its been awhile!

Well, for those of you who live in a box...

I'm at college! I simply have not felt like nor have had time to update this guy. So I figure I'd take a couple moments to do so now...

Move in day was rough. The first couple days here it poured rain...I mean poured! Luckily everybody was very helpful and I got moved in pretty fast. My roommate Joseph is a cool guy and we're getting along great! And the suitemates are awesome as well.

O-week has been super busy and sometimes stressful. Most of the time I've just wanted to go back to my room and go to sleep, so yeah I've been tired. But its been a lot of fun! There are so many stories I could tell but I just dont know where to start! So I wont even try...

Tonight theres the President's Picnic where everyone gets dressed up nicely and apparantly the girls leave a shoe somewhere, and a guy picks out a girls shoe not knowing whose it is! Pretty crazy stuff! And that girl is the date for the night, although I dont think this is a dance, its just a dinner. Should be pretty interesting. Its made me happy being dressed up!

So yesterday Linz came over and we had a wonderfuly uneventful day, which was exactly what was needed! Despite many travel difficulties due to my lack of knowledge of the area, and exits being closed off...I succesfully got her to my school and back, as well as myself safely. So yay for that, and yay for girlfriend(s) being close!

Well, turns out I got the voice teacher I wanted, the choir group I wanted, and I placed out of some french! So life is pretty good right now. And I'm loving the dorm life, my room is very good!

Well, I think I need to start heading to the picnic, I hope everybody is doing well and has a great night!

Coming Soon:
An updated picture page
Shoutouts

peace out...yo!

Wow, well I'm just sitting down to give myself a rest. My heart is on overdrive, and I'm pretty stressed out. Its really overwhelming all the stuff that I can or cant decide to bring with me to college tomorrow. Its really crazy. I've been waiting for tomorrow forever, and two weeks ago I would pay $100 bucks to go to school early(I guess that doesnt really say much), but the point is, its here and its overwhelming haha.

A big apology goes out to the people that I said I'd get together with today, but didnt. Like I said, its been overwhelming, and it just turned out I didnt have the kind of time I thought I did. I'm still not completely done packing.

So yeah, my name is John and I'm going to college tomorrow. My name is John and I'm going to college tomorrow...

No matter how many times I say it, I find it hard to believe! It feels like I've been waiting forever...

I had a fun weekend. Picked Linz up from school, spent some quality time with her and sorta her parents this weekend haha. Had some chilis(go read her journal for that story) and she took me to church, which was a lot of fun and I had been iching to go.

Today I did some last minute shopping with my parents, packed, packed, packed, had dinner, took my sisters out for some ice cream, packed, packed, watched tv, packed...

And i'm still not done! I really cant even think straight, I'm sure I have some decent stories to tell, but really...this is just meant to be my last entry at home! Until I come back home...of course...

But, for what its worth...goodbye high school!...goodbye clemmons!...goodbye high point!...goodbye north carolina(sorta...not really haha)...goodbye everything else!

(I'm so going to be back home in 2 weeks probably...)

    <lj:music>Wicked!</lj:music>

Well, I'm here at Martha's college hanging out. I just finished reading my book for school, and it just kinda affected me a lot and I wanted to write about it. I dont know, the book is called The Things They Carried by Tim O'brian. And its about a guys "experiances" in Vietnam, although its about more then that. Its partly about writing, and partly about life in general. I really suggest that if you can get a chance, read it. Its really not a war story, although it is, its just about more then that, its one of those life stories. Its kind of a sad book...yeah pretty sad.

I think I'm just going to leave off with one of the more poignant and sweeter parts of the book, he's talking about this girl he had a crush on when he was nine, later on she's dies of a brain tumor(yeah I know, depressing)...

"Down inside I had important things to tell her, big profound things, but I couldn't amke any words come out. I had trouble breathing. Now and then I'd glance over at her, thinking how beautiful she was: her white skin and those dark brown eyes and the way she always smiled at the world--always, it seemed--as if her face ahd been designed that way. The smile never went away."

I thought that was kind of nice, its really a powerful book. And I dont know, after reading it I felt like I had to write about it or something. I think it just helped organize my thoughts on the book. Sorry if anybody found this boring...think of it as my one attempt at an insightful journal entry for the year :).

I hope everybody is having a happy day, and I'll post later on about my day here at Martha's school.

So I was thinking just a moment ago, and on my drive home last night that things really do find a way of working out if they're supposed to. But yay for the big man upstairs. :)

Oh...and David at this point you've had plenty of time to meet Mary Kate and Ashely...and I have NOT received my 5 million dollar friendship check yet. Oh...and be sure to get Ash to autograph that Full House t-shirt I sent with you...

I changed my journal background image and some colors! I think it looks neat, even though I dont live or am not going to live anytime soon in the city in the picture! Heh phew I probably could have said that a little bit better. Actually it kinda makes sense...but anyways...

Its time to play...guess the city in the picture!!! There will be a huge, massive, unbelieve, you have to have it, grand prize!!!
